It's that time of year again... when we start to discuss our New Year's Resolutions, our goals for the year... how are we going to shake it up? Well, color can completely change up your space if you are looking to really feel refreshed and renewed in the upcoming year. Whether it's a wall color, adding in a decorative item, or just sprucing up the space with flowers-- maybe you channel the Color of 2024 recently listed by the top paint companies. I will share my opinions on the colors and how you can incorporate them into your own home!
2023 was the year of neutrals. Warm greens, beiges, browns dominated the interior space. But with every new year comes a new trend in design. And it looks like we are going the "cool" route again and blues and grays are making a comeback. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I am not totally on board with this. Don't get me wrong-- I love a nautical moment, but I find the blues they are showcasing to be very bold. Maybe too bold. We have blues strewn throughout our home, and I am starting to grow tired of them a bit. The blues shown give a very energetic, vibrant feel, but not so much a soothing, relaxing vibe- TO ME! So, it just depends on what you are going for. I like that they are making a statement with these colors, for sure. Let's check them out, shall we?
BENJAMIN MOORE- BLUE NOVA: a mix of lavender and blue making for a very unique blue! There is a classic feel to this color that feels nostalgic and stately to me, but also feel like it would be a risk to paint an entire room this color. My take- adding in a vase or a painting with this color incorporated. If you have a traditional dining room, this could be a way to bring a pop of elegance and fun to the space. I also like this for a sun room-- would be very pretty with various tones of white, especially white furniture.

SHERWIN WILLIAMS-UPWARD: Perhaps I take back what I said earlier about these blue tones not be relaxing. I think that if done correctly, this blue can be very blissful and spa-like. It's a very traditional color, again giving nautical tones. I picture this color used if you live seaside or want to channel a southern "Charleston" vibe. It would be chic paired with a vibrant bouquet as a centerpiece or gold hardware or furniture. It was described as "carefree" and I can see that reigning true in a bathroom setting. Below is a photo of Upward used in a bathroom, and I do really love it.

This is the color shown in the kitchen, and I don't particularly love it in this space. Perhaps it is a little too blue for me in the kitchen or it gives me a bit of a sterile feeling? This is not necessarily my "cup of tea" but I can see it being a great choice if you like a streamlined, clean look.

BEHR: CRACKED PEPPER: I think I saved the best for last. I am obsessed with this color. I know-- it's the complete opposite of Upward, so I am biased. But I just love the moody nature of this color. This color will absolutely transform a space. Whether you want to darken a bedroom to create a dark sanctuary or complete the look of a library in the home, this color is for you. This color would be fantastic in a powder room or as an accent wall behind a stone fireplace. I love this dark gray with natural wood, white, and even pure black. When you think dark gray, you may think stark and gloomy, but with the right furniture and accessories, this color is warm and inviting.

So there you have it! The colors of the year! Hopefully this helps you figure out the change you want to make in your home :)
